Touring information
This journey involves some long drives on very bumpy roads but is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. No particularly high altitudes are involved.
Passports, visas and health
All foreign nationals require a visa to enter Nepal and the visa cost is included in the price of the tour. A visa application form will be sent with your final invoice and the visa is issued on arrival at Kathmandu airport. Please check that you have at least six months validity on your passport. No inoculations are essential but the McCabe office will be happy to make recommendations and we advise you to consult your doctor regarding your own personal requirements.
Travel Insurance
The McCabe recommended insurance policy is designed for the older traveller. The premium for this pilgrimage to Nepal is £79. Travellers over 75 pay £119. We also recommend that older travellers obtain a note from their doctor stating that they are fit to travel. Do feel free to shop around as there are many suitable insurance options including annual policies on the market. We do insist that all travellers take out medical insurance.
A key feature of our recommended policy is that there is no requirement to call a Medical Help Line as most pre-existing conditions are covered.

Hotels
You can expect good, comfortable, clean accommodation during your stay and all rooms have private facilities, whether it is a private guest house, a jungle lodge, a lakeside spa hotel or a larger more western-style city centre hotel. Some single rooms are available at a supplementary charge, however, if you are trekking as part of your programme, single accommodation cannot be guaranteed.
Begnas Lake Resort
In a pristine natural setting, with gurgling mountain springs forming natural boundaries on either side, the resort rolls down the hillside to Begnas lake. To the north and the north-east are the great Himalayan snowy peaks of the Annapurna range below which lie terraced paddy fields and the tranquil Begnas lake - a perfect picture frame from the balcony and windows of every guestroom. On the southern upper slopes there are hazelnut trees interspersed by coffee, cardamom and flowering plants. The restaurant offers a wide choice of cuisines from the continent as well as oriental and Himalayan dishes and most vegetables, herbs and spices can be seen growing within the resort gardens. In this healing and life-nourishing environment, you will find a spa that offers a range of classical Ayurvedic treatments as well as soothing and rejuvenating massages.

Cuisine
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included daily; drinks are generally not included, except at breakfast when tea, coffee and fruit juices are usually provided. If you require vegetarian meals or have any special dietary requirements, please let us know and we will advise the airline, hotels and restaurants. On arrival at each establishment, please check that staff is aware of your needs. Dinners offer a choice and in our experience most travellers are happy with the variety of Indian, Tibetan, Chinese and Nepali cuisine.
Most Nepalis are vegetarian, so vegetarians are well catered for. Bottled water is on sale everywhere and we strongly recommend that you do not use tap water, even for brushing your teeth.
Travelling Alone
Many of our passengers travel alone and object to expensive single room supplements. McCabe Pilgrimages will accept individual bookings on a 'guaranteed share' basis. We charge the basic price and accommodate you with a person of the same sex also requesting shared accommodation. If we do not find someone to share with you, you will be accommodated in a single room at only 50% of the usual single room supplement. For single travellers who do require single accommodation this should be requested when booking and, if available, the normal supplement will be payable.
The McCabe Educational Trust
For many, meeting the ‘Living Stones’ of The Land becomes a real highlight of their pilgrimage. The McCabe Educational Trust is an independent registered charity with the aim of helping inspiring people we meet on pilgrimage. On your pilgrimage you will meet some of these people. As ‘the haves’ encounter the ‘have nots’ the Trust has become a practical tool for one to help the other.
McCabe Pilgrimages invite all travellers to become partners in this work. A £15 voluntary donation to the Trust’s work is added to every pilgrim’s invoice and all money raised in this way is given in full to the projects the Trust supports. This scheme is voluntary and confidential with nobody put under any pressure to participate.
Full Financial Security
All money paid to McCabe is fully secure. Holidays including flights are covered by our ATOL license from the Civil Aviation Authority, and holidays without flights are protected by our membership of the ABTOT bonding scheme. If a pilgrimage is cancelled, for instance through lack of numbers or for political considerations, McCabe will promptly refund all monies paid.
